The Harris County Health Department, funded by the state and county, provides dental, prenatal and postnatal care, inoculations, special clinics and disease control services. Family medicine practices are in Pine Mountain and Hamilton, optometric services and are available in Hamilton; and chiropractic services are available in Pine Mountain. A nursing home located in Waverly Hall provides care for 100 patients. The county has an enhanced 9-1-1 response system. The Harris County Emergency Medical Service provides emergency care and emergency transportation. Five hospitals are located within easy driving distance in Columbus and LaGrange, as well as in Valley Auburn in Alabama.
