An
oasis of peace and serenity envisioned by the Callaway family, the Ida
Cason Callaway Foundation™ has molded 14,000 acres of land into
a multi-use nature area and residential community.
With a 50-year history of quality, integrity and unique personality, the
land is now divided into four distinct areas: The Gardens at Callaway,™
The Resort at Callaway,™ The Preserve at Callaway™ and The
Community at Callaway.™
The Preserve at Callaway is several thousand acres of land maintained
in an almost natural state with only minimal and very controlled access
by the public to minimize man’s effects on the land. Floristic studies
and other important environmental research are conducted here.
The Gardens at Callaway™ is a combination of cultivated gardens
and natural woodlands open during daylight to the general public for their
pleasure. The Gardens includes such attractions as the Virginia Hand Callaway
Discovery Center, the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center, the Cecil B.
Day Butterfly Center, the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel, the Callaway
Brothers Azalea Bowl and miles of nature and bike trails.
The Resort at Callaway™ includes overnight accommodations, restaurants
and retail venues. Its purpose is to generate revenue to support the Ida
Cason Callaway Foundation.
The Community at Callaway,™ named Longleaf, fulfills the original
plan of the Callaway family to build a residential community within the
Gardens and provide an environmentally sensitive neighborhood that appeals
to those who love and respect the land.
This development is reminiscent of the past, with architectural authenticity
as indigenous as the wildflowers. The surroundings are integrated into
Longleaf, and the building of each home provides the latest in energy-saving
technology and construction. A variety of home plans assures that each
home reflects the style of its owner.
