Learning
to Succeed
"Through vision and commitment, Harris County Schools will provide
an excellent education to all students."
Harris County is a growing community whose citizens and businesses support
the Harris County School System in every endeavor. The system consists
of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
Art, music and physical education are offered to all students beginning
in kindergarten, and students continually make the community proud by
their performance at local, state and national competitions. Students
are offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and
extracurricular clubs at the local, state and national levels.
Each classroom in the Harris County School System has five Internet-connected
computers, and laptop labs are available at each school. Students are
encouraged to use technology as a tool in their daily assignments.
Two hundred students are offered pre-kindergarten through the Georgia
Pre-kindergarten Program, allowing four-year-olds to enjoy a full-day
program at the school sites. Transportation is provided by the school
system. After-school programs are offered at each elementary school for
a nominal fee.
All Harris County public schools are accredited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools. Meeting the standards of this organization assures
parents that their children are receiving a quality education and are
being prepared for the future.
Continuing Education
Harris County residents have easy access to post-secondary education.
West Georgia Technical College, Columbus Technical College, LaGrange College,
Columbus State University, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Troy
State at Phenix City (Alabama) and Auburn University are all within easy
driving distance.
Students at Harris County High School may participate in dual enrollment
with many of these institutions, earning college credit while still in
high school.
