Keeping the Faith

In Harris County’s early years, families would gather in homes for worship, Bible study, prayer and to sing hymns. Itinerant ministers preached to residents throughout the area, often setting up "brush arbors" to shelter worshippers from the hot summer sun. The earliest groups to form churches in Harris County were Primitive Baptist, Missionary Baptist and Methodist.

Today, one can still find small rural churches active throughout the county. However, in recent years new churches that represent most mainline denominations have begun to dot the landscape. Many independent groups have also formed congregations for worship and fellowship.

Whether a resident or a visitor, you will find a warm and open invitation to join the congregation of your choice.
