Since the decline of cotton after World War I, small businesses and services have replaced agriculture as the primary source of income in Madison County. Poultry and beef cattle production are still leading industries, but row-cropping has been replaced by pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farms, Christmas tree farms, hobby farming, and forest land which is often leased to hunting clubs.
Among the county’s largest employers are Trus Joist, a Weyerhaeuser Business (a producer of Parallel strand lumber), Platoon Uniforms and Sportswear, Cobb Health Care Center, Warren Featherbone (a manufacturer of infant apparel), American Vans, Inc. and Ingles Grocery Store.
