Polk County Recreation

Opportunities for recreation abound in Polk County, which offers a number of recreation facilities, trails, golf courses and several renowned sporting events.

Seaborn Jones Memorial Park in Rockmart features picnic areas, the Eurhalee Creek and the popular Silver Comet Trail, which links Rockmart and Cedartown. The trail, running east to west, allows for biking, running, skating and leisurely walking.

The Nathan Dean Sports Complex in Rockmart is equipped with ball fields, playground equipment and a walking track, while the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic complex in Cedartown offers patrons a gym, ball fields, a football field, a track, a picnic area and hails as a site for an array of recreational leagues. Further sites for outdoor activities are the Historic Peek Forest Park, lined with tennis courts, picnic areas, playground equipment, a walking trail and more, and the 1,000-acre ATV Park offering 16 trails for riders of all expertise levels.

The county is also home to five golf courses, which includes the public courses of Cedar Valley Golf Course, Meadow Lakes Golf Course and Prospect Valley Golf Club, and the private courses of the Cherokee Golf and Country Club and Goodyear Golf Course.

Polk County is home to a route featured in the Tour de Georgia, a popular professional cycling event attracting a wealth of popular cyclists to the state, including Lance Armstrong. In addition, the Cedartown Wheelchair Training Camp is held in the area, which leads into the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. Part of the World Series of Wheelchair Races, the Peachtree Road Race has become a famous event in the region.
