There are excellent schools at both ends of the county, providing instruction to more than 7,200 students through nine outstanding and accredited public schools, including two primary schools, three elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The public primary and elementary schools serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The comprehensive academic program at Bryan County High School and Richmond Hill High School provides vocational and college-preparatory instruction to students in grades 9-12.

Parents often choose to move to Bryan County communities because of the school system test scores, but they stay and form lasting impressions of our schools based on the positive daily interactions among students, parents and school staff. Resources are provided to support exemplary academic and extracurricular programs, but there is a consistent focus throughout the curriculum on values such as patriotism, honesty and other components of character education. Schools in Bryan County have implemented a number of recognition and appreciation activities to demonstrate gratitude to military parents for their service to both community and country. The Bryan County School System outpaced its neighbors and the state as a whole in SAT scores. The school system also boasts a high school graduation rate of over 80%, compared to the state average of 69%.

Additional information on the public school system may be found at or at he board office located at 66 Industrial Boulevard, Pembroke, GA 31321. 912-626-5000

Public libraries meet the needs of the community. An affiliate of the Statesboro Regional Public Library System, Bryan County libraries maintain a collection of more than 50,000 books, videos/DVDs, audio books and CDs. Library users also have free access to more than 8.5 million items from 270 public libraries across Georgia through the PINES network. Both libraries have public computers with Internet access and free Wi-Fi. Bryan County Library computers can link anyone to GALILEO, Georgia’s “virtual library” that offers access to numerous archival and full-text publications.

The libraries offer a long list of programs (including children’s story time, book clubs, a Summer Reading Program and more) and facility space for nonprofit meetings, conferences, author’s readings, GED instruction, special programs and displays that are open to the public, free of charge. Other services offered through the library are voter registration, tax forms and genealogical materials.
