Worth County lists 22,500 with 6,500 residing in Sylvester, the county
seat.
Location:
Worth County is 168 miles south of Atlanta and 20 miles west of Interstate
75, the major north-south artery.
Government:
Elected officials serve city and county governments including five county
commissioners. The incorporated communities of Sylvester, Poulan, Warwick
and Sumner all function with a mayor/council form of government.
Climate:
Southwest Georgia is noted for extended spring and summer seasons with
an average rainfall of about 48 inches per year. A moderate climate produces
an average January temperature of 51 degrees while the average July temperature
is 80 degrees. Outdoor activity occurs practically year-round since January
and February are the coldest months of the year.
