Higher Education

Founded in 1901 as the Academy of Idaho, Idaho State University attained four-year status as an accredited college in 1947.

A continual push for progress and growth has led ISU to the outstanding reputation it has today.

Making full use of available advanced technology, the university offers more than 6,000 credit hours via distance learning courses at ISU outreach centers in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Boise and outlying communities.

With nationally recognized courses of study in health professions, business and pharmacy, the university has also made a name for itself in the fields of teacher education, engineering and technology. Students can choose from 137 undergraduate, 56 master and 13 doctoral programs — as well as 56 professional-technical certificate and postdoctoral programs.

ISU is home to the Idaho Accelerator Center and the Business and Technology Center. The Idaho Accelerator Center is a state-of-the-art facility for nuclear and physics research. By creating partnerships among scientists and engineers within the government, university and private sectors, advances and practical applications in the nuclear and radiation sciences can be made.

The Business and Technology Center (located in the ISU Business and Research Park) resulted from a desire to develop and provide space for diversified entrepreneurial opportunities, thus encouraging creative research, technological development and applied business innovations. This has proven to be an enhancement for the region in the creation of jobs. A business incubator provides space and services to new business ventures, so they can benefit from the support and guidance available while they mold and shape their businesses during the early years.
