Industry
Pocatello continues to develop its industrial segment. With manufacturers such as AMI Semiconductor, the industrial economy is viewed as one of the most vibrant in the entire region.
The area seeks to make the most of its business partnerships. The Business and Technology Center, located in the Idaho State University Business and Research Park, provides a wealth of experience and assistance to new and existing businesses. The ISU sponsored Idaho Accelerator Center is another valuable player. The Idaho Accelerator Center collaborates with university, governmental and private entities — such as the nearby Idaho National Laboratory (INL). INL completes research and applications in a variety of areas — including alternative and renewable energy sources, homeland security, scientific programming and robotics programming.
With an active and available labor force, Pocatello is a wise choice for business implementation or expansion. Additional workers are easily attracted from outlying areas, which is an asset to Pocatello’s labor force. A number of prime locations are available for business and industrial developments, many with existing buildings for manufacturing. Other locations are awaiting client–specified development. These locations can range in size from two acres to over 100 acres, and are appropriately zoned for industrial, manufacturing or professional use. Many sites have rail and/or interstate access, and all are served by all major utilities.
Pocatello’s diversity is one of the keys to its economic success. While a large number of its residents are employed in the fields of higher education, research and transportation, several other integral pieces exist in this area’s well-crafted architecture of commerce. Food processing, semiconductor design and wafer fabrication, medical products manufacturing, phosphate reduction, data entry and processing, telecommunications, heavy manufacturing, and retail businesses all play important roles in this economic success story.
