Pocatello Area Chamber of Commerce

Healthcare

Pocatello offers a number of premier healthcare services and facilities to the people of Southeast Idaho.

Portneuf Medical Center is a not-for-profit, acute and long-term care facility owned by the citizens of Bannock County. With approximately 1,300 employees, it is the second largest employer in Bannock County. The organization’s mission, vision and value statements set the bar for the delivery of compassionate, quality healthcare for every patient — regardless of their ability to pay.

Portneuf Medical Center was formed when two area hospitals (Bannock Regional Medical Center and Pocatello Regional Medical Center) consolidated in 2002. Portneuf Medical Center is a governmental, 248-bed (plus 14 NICU-bassinets and 28 well baby nursery bassinets), acute care facility and 92-bed Long Term/Transitional care facility. Acute care services are offered at two hospital locations, the West campus at 651 Memorial Drive and the East campus at 777 Hospital Way. Offsite hospital facilities include an urgent care center, a family practice residency clinic, a home healthcare center and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy center.

Specialty services at Portneuf Medical Center include MRI and CT scans, a newborn intensive care unit, cancer treatment, a behavioral health unit, a sleep disorder center, and a treatment facility specializing in kidney disease and internal medicine. Portneuf Medical Center is designated by the American College of Surgeon’s Committee as a Level Three Trauma Center and offers 24-hour emergency care.

For 20 years, the LifeFlight helicopter has been providing fast, lifesaving services to the people of Southeast Idaho. In 2003, Portneuf Medical Center purchased a new Augusta A109E helicopter that will allow for faster trips and even better access to patients during flight.

In addition, the Idaho State Veterans’ Home provides skilled care to Idaho’s veterans by offering services and activities in a homelike setting.

The Pocatello/Chubbuck area is mindful of its older residents’ needs. Several assisted living facilities are located here — including AmeriCare, Highland Hills, and Whispering Pines Assisted Living. Quail Ridge offers assisted living in studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Services provided through assisted living programs include meals, transportation, assistance with medication and personal needs, laundry and housekeeping. These facilities promote the maximum independence of their residents in a homelike environment.
