Arlington Heights, Illinois, the “City of Good Neighbors,” is a premier suburb jam-packed with amenities often found in bigger cities, but with a close-knit community continually focused on making it an even better place to live. Despite the amount of growth and development in this area, residents still strive to maintain the small-town, cohesive feeling that emanates from Arlington Heights.
Arlington Heights is located in the northwest suburbs of Cook County, about 25 miles from Downtown Chicago. From a small community with a population of approximately 1,000 people that was once called Dunton and later West Wheeling, this village has been through quite a journey, developing into a bustling, growing community of more than 76,000 residents.
Arlington Heights has seen much progress in the past decade. One of the biggest projects was the construction of the Metropolis building. In this complex, the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre brings a variety of acts annually to its over 300-seat theater. The 4,000 square-foot Metropolis Ballroom is a great venue for small and large private parties and corporate happenings. The development also boasts 25,000 square-feet of retail space, 25,000-square feet of office space and 63 condominiums. The Arlington Town Square and Village Green developments house about 330 condominiums, approximately 112,000 square-feet of retail space and 49,000 square- feet of office space. The Arlington Heights train station revealed its new look to the community in 2000. All of these undertakings were geared to revitalize the downtown area to benefit residents and business owners of the community.
Residents of Arlington Heights exhibit pride in their city. Hundreds of locals volunteer in community, church and school groups every day, working to provide for the common good. Numerous residents have lived here for many years and raised their children, in turn, their children are doing the same. Investing so much of their lives in the community spurs them to help improve the already vibrant village that is Arlington Heights.
