Business with a Personal Touch

TAILORED TO SUIT THE CUSTOMER
Jos. A. Bank Clothiers has been around for 102 years and has a variety of goods and services offered to their clientele, including the convenience of a full tailoring service. A men’s apparel store serving both business and leisure customers, the clothier offers an extremely wide selection of items including business attire, formal wear, sportswear, and even luggage.

Another hallmark of the store is that it is very comprehensive, with everything from sleepwear to suits and a range from dressy to casual. Those looking to get everything in one place will be pleased as the store also provides a selection of other, smaller items such as ties, shoes, socks, belts and even cufflinks.

Store manager John Worthan points out that their Deer Park location is ideal, drawing customers from the Chicago area as well as those from the local community. Jos. A. Bank is well-established in Illinois, with over 20 locations throughout the state and many others throughout the nation.

Such a widespread network of stores shows that this men’s clothier has an approach that keeps customers loyal, and Worthan points out that Jos. A. Bank prides itself on fantastic customer service as well as having the right mix of merchandise. “Lots of inventory, good presentation and high-quality tailoring set us apart,” he highlights.

GATHERING AROUND THE HEARTH
The “signature” of Cosi has always been the idea of the hearth — an open flame stone oven that is the centerpiece of each of their restaurants, including their Deer Park location. The store’s overall feel was inspired by that of the small Parisian café: inviting, warm and friendly. Named for the original owner’s beloved opera, “Così Fan Tutti,” the concept they have created has definitely met with approval; Cosi opened with only one store in 1996 and now has over 100 restaurants in 16 states.

Cosi

Those who have been to Cosi will recognize the aroma of their signature crackly crust flatbread being baked fresh in the oven. The upscale, tasteful style of the interior is both modern and welcoming. Menu items are simple, but executed well. They include pizzas, salads that are tossed to order, soups, sandwiches and a variety of tasty desserts. The true café feel would never be complete without coffee, and Cosi serves a signature house blend along with a vast array of other coffee, tea and smoothie selections that are sure to please the palate.

Whether settling in for a cup of coffee with friends or meeting a date for dinner, the décor and atmosphere at this restaurant lends itself to conversation and relaxation. After all, gathering around the hearth is a tradition that dates back just about as far as our own history goes—but now it can be done in the comfort of a Cosi.

A PERSONAL COMMITMENT
Nestled on 20 acres of open land and lake, the Onion Pub & Brewery has brought the warmth of an old English town pub to Lake Barrington. Michael Kainz, owner and brewmaster, calls upon his 25 years of experience in dining and the brewing arts to deliver a step back in time to old-world traditions and merriment. “We love Barrington and its people,” said Bebe Katchen, General Manager of the Onion Pub. “We try to bring that ‘Olde’ World European feel to our pub and to our town.”

The Great Room boasts an awe-inspiring view of the surrounding meadow, waterfall and lake with seating for 160 patrons to enjoy all the natural beauty. Accentuating this spectacular view is its 40 foot vaulted timber-framed ceiling. Adjacent is the North Room with seating for 120 and the Cascade Room, which seats 50. All rooms offer rich, warm, wood tones with a cozy fireplace complimenting the Cascade Room. Saturdays feature live bands and entertainment with no cover charge (now that is a step back in time).

Special pub brews use nothing but the choicest ingredients, making them a 100% natural product. Using a variety of domestic and imported barley malt, blending with specially filtered water and boiling with a number of different hops help create that unique craft beer quality and flavor. It is a slow process but well worth the wait. The Pub even offers tours through its state-of-the-art brewing facility.

From appetizers to their new offering of Panini sandwiches and main entrees consisting of pasta, meats, poultry and seafood, the menu is fit for a king. Top that off with one (or two) of the many delicious house ales and you can see why people come back to the pub again and again. It is not only the fine food and ale that bring people back, however; it is also the caring atmosphere and community support shown to all. “We are proud to have supported so many local projects and fundraisers here at the pub,” said Bebe Katchen.

With a choice brewery, fine dining, banquet service, beautiful surroundings and a deep community spirit, the Onion Pub & Brewery offers much more than your customary social establishment – it lets you step back to a more relaxed and friendly time while still enjoying all the advantages of the present.

CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH A STORY
In 1924, Louis Rose founded the Rose Packing Company of Chicago. Starting out as a boning house, it specialized in meat trimmings for sausage and soon became one of America’s premier meat processing companies. Chicago’s Southwest side is home to its processing plant, with corporate offices located in South Barrington. Two additional offerings from the Rose family in South Barrington are the Millrose Brewing Company Restaurant and the Millrose Country Store. Rose had six 125-year-old barns renovated to create the restaurant, country store, a microbrewery and banquet facilities. Inside the restaurant, you will find a delicious feast set amidst a rustic ambience, accentuated by high fireplaces. Outside are patios lined with umbrella-covered tables and surrounded by large fireplaces. The country store has special and unique gifts for visitors and many customers do their daily shopping there.

William Rose

Today, William Rose continues in the tradition started 83 years ago of giving customers the best in products and service. He is a part of five generations that dedicated themselves to a commitment of excellence for the customer and to the business world. Through these time-honored traditions, handed down to each generation, customers receive the best product and most helpful service for their everyday needs. This is an impressive heritage to hold and a very heavy responsibility to carry – but the heritage is cherished and the responsibility has always been accepted.

William Rose moved to South Barrington in the late 1950s. With him, he brought the gift of storytelling. One of his many books, The Corridors Of Time, relates personal experiences through short stories from his early years in the Barrington area. His descriptions of situations he faced and people he encountered let the reader relive them all over again with a deeper sense of understanding about Barrington’s past. These stories, written and delivered with charm and wit, show a very revealing side of a man who cares a great deal about people, community and the politics that affect both. His undaunted courage, resolution and common sense in the story History Of The Village Of South Barrington not only makes for good reading but also a good blueprint on how to deal with the unexpected when timing is everything. The entire Barrington area is indeed lucky to have a man like William Rose call this community his home.
