For over 150 years, Batavia has been home to a variety of successful businesses and industries. Batavia’s nickname, “City of Energy,” not only reflects its business base but also the people who make it possible for businesses to succeed. The people who live and work within Batavia’s boundaries are hard working, enthusiastic, energetic and well-educated; combined, these traits exemplify a strong and vital workforce.
The strong workforce, available lands, and a supportive environment work in concert to attract business and industry to the area. In the past, Batavia was home to several windmill manufacturers. The current City Hall is located in the former home of the Appleton Manufacturing Company – 100 N. Island Avenue.
Today, Batavia is home to over 100 manufacturing, research and warehousing firms. Some of its larger corporations include Fermilab, Aldi, DS Containers, Suncast, AGCO, FlagSource and many others. To find out more about the businesses located in Batavia, contact the Chamber office at 630-879-7134 or visit www.bataviachamber.org.
Several business clusters are located throughout town. Industrial businesses can find a home at one of two major industrial/office parks: 1300 acres on the city’s northeast side and an area located in the area of Rt. 25 (River Street), east of the Fox River.
Businesses will find a welcoming ally in the Batavia Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is a key advocate for business and industry in the community. Working to enhance the already booming business base, the Chamber hosts many events aimed at current and prospective businesses. Among its programs are the business and consumer expos, Community Leadership Symposium, Citizen of the Year, Leads Groups and many regular networking events.
The Chamber keeps its members informed on significant legislative events on a local, state and federal level. By keeping members informed of current and potential legislation that affects the cost and manner of doing business, the Chamber provides a valuable service that helps local businesses make informed decisions on how to conduct their affairs. Member businesses that need assistance with government red tape can call upon the Chamber for assistance.
Batavia’s manufacturers produce a variety of goods including paper conversion products, molded plastics, electronic controls, computer software, cables, modems, various bedding products, paints, stains, textbooks and hardware. Businesses provide the community with a wide variety of services that include most everything a business or resident might need.
