Bensenville possesses a quality public educational system which is second to none. "Bensenville, a Lifelong Learning Community," is committed to promoting learning opportunities for all citizens. The community was selected as one of eleven sites for " Designs for a New Generation of American Schools" a one-year planning initiative that allowed the community to develop specific goals as a lifelong learning community. The city has established the Two Thousand Education Coalition Foundation as well. The BTEC has major joint partners in its mission of educational excellence. The nonprofit organization has awards mini-grants to various community, library and school projects.

Bensenville Elementary school District 2 administers more than 2,000 students in the Bensenville and Wood Dale communities. It oversees the village’s five public elementary schools. The district has a leading basic education program that focuses on reading as the educational cornerstone. Programs in language arts, social studies, mathematics and science are stressed. The district’s administration have aligned the core curriculum with the State of Illinois’ Goals for Learning. The results of these efforts have been significantly higher scores on the Illinois Goals Assessment Program. The district is equally proud of its innovative approaches to learning. Foreign language lessons are offered to students who also have the benefit of automated learning centers at each of the five schools. Students have access to the collections and materials at the Bensenville public library, the DuPage Library System and many other libraries in the metropolitan area. This is the first time an entire school district in Illinois has been so integrated. An interactive satellite system also links students to experts around the globe. Fenton High School District 100 has a student enrollment of approximately 1,400. Fenton offers a unique combination of a suburban school education within a personalized environment. Curriculum and technology are continuously upgraded to meet student needs. Fenton has a progressive bilingual education program, Video Production and Journalism courses and a diverse selection of core and specialty curriculum. The school also features multifunction computer labs and high-tech equipment to meet the demands of the future today. More than 20 clubs and teams provide students with a wide variety of extracurricular activities, and all students are encouraged to participate. Bensenville provides the best health care available for its citizens as part of a comprehensive, focused effort to ensure their continued health and well-being. The Lifelink center is a not-for-profit charitable health organization has been serving the city’s children, families and the aging for over a century. It features many top quality services including: adoption, behavioral-health, continuing-care, foster care, Head Start, home delivered meals and maternity services, among others.

The Village is located within easy reach of many area major hospitals. Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Gottlieb Memorial Hospital are three of the major health care providers that serve area residents as well. The Bensenville village government is led by a dedicated Village board and manager who strive to maintain the highest standards for the city’s nearly 18,000 residents. It has an elected president, clerk and six member board of trustees who administer to the day-to-day functions of the community and keep things running smoothly. governmentThe 40 commissioned officers of the Bensenville Police Department, endeavor to provide service to the community, uphold the law and enrich the lives of its citizens with a variety of community programs. These programs include; D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T., Bicycle patrol, Neighborhood watch and the Police Neighborhood Resource Center (PNRC), among others. The city provides public works services and also handles sanitation and recycling duties.

Fire-fighting and emergency services are handled by the members that make up the city’s Fire Department. The department is well-equipped and prepared to handle a variety of emergency situations and operates a wide variety of the latest fire-fighting equipment. Civic Clubs & Organizationscivic clubs & organizations

Bensenville is the home of numerous Civic clubs and community organizations devoted to creating strong community bonds and providing civic leadership. The Korthauer Log House Restoration Project is an example of this cooperative spirit. The Bensenville Historical Society was selected as one of the 1992 winners of the prestigious Governors Hometown Award for the coordination of the log house project. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by volunteers who worked to improve the quality of life in Bensenville.

The Youth Services Department serves young people in Bensenville by sponsoring programs, by direct assistance to youth who have special needs, by acting as a youth advocate, and by supporting community agencies who provide services and programs for youth. The Youth Services Department works to initiate the positive relationships among young and old, and to promote a community environment which fully recognizes and utilizes the talents of young people. The Bensenville Historical Commission was created in 1985 by the Village to encourage continued interest in historical Bensenville homes. It also provides programming related to preservation of historical structures, and a forum for the preservation and dissemination of historical information. The Commission works closely with the Bensenville Historical Society.

The Bensenville park District and the Village of Bensenville also offer a variety of special programs and services for senior citizens.

The village also operates the Police Neighborhood Resource Center as a satellite office for the Police Department. It has a wide variety of educational and service programs, including recreational, counseling and a referral service. Dozens of local special interest clubs also play a vital role in Bensenville’s culturally vibrant community making it as exciting and diverse as ever.
