A Dozen Top-Notch Hallmarks in Buffalo Grove School Districts

student

As Buffalo Grove continues to grow, the Village continues to meet its challenges with sound management and planning. In the following paragraphs, administrators and staff in the six districts of public and private schools across the school system have shared special points of pride in their district. These educational leaders have conveyed the area’s innovation and collaboration to plan and provide the best in the learning sector. The comments provided are diverse and proud—filled with what we all like to know when we send our children off to school.

Not surprisingly—and quite delightfully—the kids like coming to school in Buffalo Grove. They feel safe and secure and know that their teachers care about their social and emotional needs.

With this environment it is not at all surprising to learn that the districts are proud to be able to hire—and retain—quality teachers. And these teachers put considerable emphasis on effectively teaming up to discuss curriculum, best practices, student data, and much more.

The staff operates as a professional learning community and collaboration is key. Their concerns for Johnny and for Susie? What to learn, how to measure that and how to help those who fall short.

The schools focus on and plan ways to increase student achievement, and are proud to see consistent gains over time in reading and in math.

The respect and caring the citizens of the community have for the educational system and their high expectations are nothing short of inspiring for staff, administrators and volunteers, too.

The schools offer numerous opportunities for parent involvement, including a Parent-to-Parent Network. Book studies, expert speakers and panel discussions are enjoyed. The Network is for the parents and run by the parents—with enormous success.

The communities are filled with diversity and it is a beautiful thing to see the ripples as the blending of people and practices grows and expands.

Fitness is fun in the schools, and in one district the recent opening of a school fitness center as a Learning Fund Foundation initiative speaks to that. The fitness center is in line with a multi-year initiative to provide healthier lifestyles for all students. To wit—every day, every student in that district engages in some physical activity.

Art and music are enjoyed two times a week and in the middle schools of grades six through eight, students have a “Quint”—art, music, technology, communications and family & consumer sciences (yesteryear home economics) are enjoyed.

Community spirit runs high in the schools. In one special holiday project students and staff collaborate to donate and wrap gifts for less fortunate families.

The goal for the future across the districts is to continue to look at the whole child, ultimately giving all children the opportunity to learn and to grow.
