The health and wellness resources serving the Buffalo Grove area are as plentiful as they are high in quality. They provide continually progressive and overall excellent medical care through a number of well-equipped facilities that dot the map of the region.

As the Village perseveres in such facets as education and business, the healthcare community grows right alongside, expanding facilities and implementing new, modern technologies, services and programs. At the same time, they are receiving prestigious accolades and recognitions that set them apart from healthcare providers in the surrounding areas.
The 488-bed Northwest Community Hospital has been an active part of the Buffalo Grove community for decades, not only with its main campus location in nearby Arlington Heights, but also with the established 24-hour Buffalo Grove Treatment Center. Since the hospital’s founding in December of 1959, it has become one of the most reputable healthcare centers in the area. In 2007 alone, Northwest Community Hospital received several esteemed awards and acknowledgments, including a 100 Top Hospitals recognition by Solucient, the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence and Illinois’ #1 Hospital for Overall Heart Care by HealthGrades, the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and recognition as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune magazine.
Always looking toward the future, Northwest Community Hospital has embarked upon an exciting campus improvement plan seen as the most ambitious project since the hospital’s establishment. To meet the ever-growing demand for healthcare services, the Renaissance Project will provide a new eight-story patient care building which will feature 200 private rooms, a 24-bed Critical Care Unit, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units and four floors dedicated to medical and surgical patients. In addition to this, the new facility will supply space for the expansion of the Emergency Department, which will eventually reach a total space of 42,000 square feet. Also included in the plans, which are slated for completion in mid-2010, are a new seven-level parking deck and substantial remodeling to the main hospital.

Northwest Community Hospital isn’t the only medical source taking on big initiatives. Nearby Libertyville’s Condell Medical Center has invested in a two-part expansion plan in order to acquire the all-important Level I Trauma Designation. With this designation, residents of Buffalo Grove and its surrounding communities will not have to travel out of the county to receive the most advanced trauma care. The expansion of the hospital’s bed tower will bring Condell’s total number of licensed beds to 283 and will include further space for clinical, non-clinical and ancillary services. The construction on the hospital’s emergency department broke ground in August of 2007. The $23.5 million expansion plan will ultimately reduce wait times and supplement patient privacy. The new space, which will span 43,000 square feet, will be more than triple the size of the hospital’s current emergency department. The current emergency department will remain open during construction, with the expansion projected to be finished by 2009.
A merging of the medical practices of the Greater Northwest Medical Group, North Suburban Internists, Adult Care Specialists and Rand Imaging Center, Affinity Healthcare has become a strong force in the area’s medical community. This innovative group strives to provide clinical excellence and complete, quality and convenient care to its patients in the area. Services rendered include Diagnostic Imaging, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Laboratory, Nutritional Counseling and much more. Buffalo Grove is home to one of Affinity Healthcare’s Primary Care facilities. Ever-expanding, Affinity’s recent addition is the new Immediate Care Center in nearby Arlington Heights, which welcomes walk-ins for non-threatening urgent care.
Other healthcare facilities in the area, including Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Lake Forest Hospital and a wealth of clinics and private practices, are also constantly implementing new programs and services in order to keep up with the growth and medical demand of the area. Even alternative medicine practices have continued to expand. The Wahls of Wellness opened its doors in 2004 as a two-room office supplying only acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine services. The office soon expanded to five rooms, providing chiropractic services, physical therapy and nutritional counseling in addition to the previous offerings. Just last year, the practice expanded its office once more, adding an additional six treatment rooms and hiring a full-time massage therapist.
Buffalo Grove’s senior population also has a choice of modern services and amenities through several facilities in and surrounding the area. Sunrise Assisted Living of Buffalo Grove, Belmont Village, the Claremont Rehab and Living Center and Hawthorn Lakes in nearby Vernon Hills all supply residents with comfortable living and all the necessities one may need. Hawthorn Lakes continuously strives to offer its mature residents an array of quality services and superior living facilities, along with a calendar year full of diverse events and activities.
With all of this and more happening in the area’s thriving healthcare community, Buffalo Grove residents certainly have a multitude of medical options and can rest assured that they are receiving only the best in healthcare.
It is a known fact: Exercise does a body good. Not only does being active in some way or another maximize energy, but it also aids in maintaining a healthy mind and body inside and out, as well as helping to prevent such disorders as heart disease and obesity, among many other diseases. In response to the country’s overdrive in overweight persons, outlets for health and wellness have become more prevalent, aiding in this apparent epidemic.
In addition to its excellent hospitals, clinics and private practices, Buffalo Grove is home to several fitness centers geared toward promoting a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. One such site, the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, is popular among many active members of the community.
Joining forces to make this fitness center a reality was the esteemed Buffalo Grove Park District and reputable Northwest Community Healthcare. Opened in 2000, the 70,000-square-foot Buffalo Grove Fitness Center is teeming with highly-trained health professionals equipped with nationally recognized credentials, ready to support members of all ages and body types with extensive knowledge on diet and fitness.
