Known for its picturesque weeping willow trees that sway against a backdrop of natural ponds, wetlands and colorful foliage, the Village of Willowbrook appeals to young professionals, growing families and senior adults. Incorporated in 1960, Willowbrook has, by design, evolved into a well-balanced community, blending major retail businesses with light industry, corporate parks, multi-family housing and a range of single-family subdivisions. An abundance of hotels and motels including Holiday Inn, Super 8, La Quinta and Red Roof Inn, plus two major car dealerships provide a comfortable community tax base with little municipal tax to property owners.
In 2007, the Willowbrook Town Center opened at the intersection of Plainfield Road and Illinois Highway 83. The Town Center is home to several large retail stores and restaurants and will offer residents a variety of entertainment and community events in a common gathering area during the warm weather months. Food connoisseurs enjoy Willowbrook’s excellent eateries that include an authentic Irish pub, a Chicago-style hot dog restaurant, a Taste of India, spicy Mexican fare, several pizzerias, banquet facilities and a historic fried chicken diner dating back to the Route 66 glory days.
Public transportation available to residents includes the PACE bus service, which offers daily service to the METRA train station in downtown Clarendon Hills during morning and evening work hours, as well as travel to other destinations on the PACE route.
The Willowbrook Parks and Recreation Department operates 10 parks totaling 55 acres. Eight of the parks are equipped with playgrounds and picnic tables. The department also offers year-round programs for preschoolers through senior adults. For those seeking fitness and a healthy lifestyle, there is a state of the art health club and an integrative health spa. The Arabian Knights Horse Farm and training center accommodates those with equestrian and boarding interests. Willow Pond located at Plainfield and Adams Road offers a fishing deck for the enjoyment of all and is handicapped accessible.
