Shopping in the Cardunal area is like a visit to a superstore full of quality and bargains. Opportunities to find precisely what is desired are just around the corner in the central business districts of Carpentersville, Algonquin, and East and West Dundee, at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, and at the new strip centers in Algonquin and Lake In The Hills.

River Street, in East Dundee, home of the Dundee Township Tourist Center, is a grand mix of retail outlets in a turn-of-the-century atmosphere.

A variety of stores line nearby Main Street and continue across the Fox River bridge into West Dundee. East and West Dundee are cooperating in the national Main Street program, designed to enhance downtown commercial districts.

New stores have mushroomed along Illinois Route 31 since the completion of Spring Hill Mall. The mall opened in October 1980. Anchored by Carson Pirie Scott, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s, Marshall Field’s, Sears, and Wickes Furniture, the mall lists at least 140 specialty stores, restaurants, and services. As a regional shopping center, Spring Hill Mall offers a number of special interest and community events throughout the year.

Dozens more stores and nationally-known restaurants are gathered at the edges of the mall property, including a major food store, multi-screen cinema, and 25-store Spring Hill Fashion Corner.

Haeger, the world’s largest art pottery maker, is headquartered in East Dundee. The company’s factory store is a popular browsing place for shoppers, as are the dozens of antique outlets which dot the entire Cardunal area.

Shopping galore is available throughout the Cardunal area. East Dundee’s River Valley Square features 23 stores; West Dundee’s Century Plaza has 15 stores and services; Carpentersville’s Meadowdale Shopping Center offers 18 stores, a multi-screen cinema, and Carpenterville’s U.S. Post Office; Algonquin’s Town Center features a major food store and a dozen smaller shops and services. Several thriving shopping centers have sprung up at the intersection of Randall Road and Rt. 62 in Algonquin and Lake In The Hills. The centers include three super-size food stores, a variety of other stores, and several fast food outlets. A giant, multi-screen cinema is nearby. Huntley Factory Shops features more than 50 outlet stores off of I-90 just west of Gilberts.

The many shopping centers in the Cardunal area usually have one or more national franchise restaurants, including fast food eateries and stylish sit-down restaurants.
