Business and Industry

Businesses of all kinds and types, from major international industrial firms to small independent enterprises, find Chicago Heights an ideal place to do business.

Many manufacturers elect to locate plants in the city, and many established industries are expanding their existing facilities.

The city’s Department of Economic Development works to draw in new business; create employment opportunities for area residents and implement a number of economic development incentives geared to support business retention, development, expansion and, of course, recruitment.

These beneficial incentives include, but are not limited to, Tax Increment Financing, State of Illinois Enterprise Zones, Cook County Property Tax Incentives and Cook County Community Development Block Grant commercial funding options. The City is in direct partnership with such entities as the Chicago Heights Leadership Council, the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and a number of regional economic development agencies in order to ensure successful economic development and an overall superior economic vitality of this flourishing region.

Additionally, Chicago Heights’ status as a Home Rule municipality enables the City to provide varied incentive packages designed to meet the specific needs of a developer that complies with the comprehensive plans for the entire community.
