Letter from the Mayor

The promise of my administration is revitalization and progress. Since May 6, 2003, when I took office, my administration has endeavored to make tough decisions to foster economic and community growth. By coming together across political, racial and socio-economic lines, we’ve instituted great changes.

• The administration has achieved sizeable savings through reductions to the size of city government and through streamlining city operations, which has been reflected in city budgets, as well as future budgets in years to come.

• Under the direction of Police Chief Anthony Murphy, we have successfully increased drug intervention efforts and made our neighborhoods safer.

• We have successfully introduced Chicago Heights into regional partnerships, including the South Suburban Airport Authority, formed to promote the third airport in Peotone; as well as the Metra Line and Southland Casino.

• We have successfully administered the tools of economic development in order to increase the number of businesses and to provide business retention and existing business expansion opportunities, which ultimately creates more jobs and various tax revenues for the city.

• We have sought to unite our community around the idea of service to one another and hosted giveaways of school supplies, a Thanksgiving Day food giveaway, a winter clothing giveaway and a Christmas Basket giveaway.

I have a great sense of urgency about getting things done for this great city. Please contact my office with your questions, concerns or needs.
