The more than 2.5 million people living in Chicago Southland are served by nine major hospitals and a broad network of immediate care facilities. Residents of the entire region need only dial 911 for emergency assistance.
Oak Forest Hospital in Oak Forest is the area's largest medical facility, with more than 1,100 beds. It offers special diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation services to patients with physical impairments, chronic illnesses, and degenerative diseases.
Oak Lawn's Christ Hospital and Medical Center, part of the Advocate Health Care system, is a state-designated Level I trauma center and the second largest treatment center in Chicago Southland. It has 827 beds and employs more than 4,300. A Level I pediatric trauma center as well, the hospital provides obstetric services, adult and pediatric cardiac care, surgical services, and general medical services. Its oncology services are renowned. Christ Hospital also operates a women's health center in Tinley Park and a center for physical therapy and occupational health maintenance in Burbank.
Hazel Crest's South Suburban Hospital, with a newly renovated and expanded Family Birthing Center, is also part of the Advocate Health Care system.
Celebrating 78 years of service, Ingalls is an extended family of more than 4,000 physicians, employees and volunteers working together to help a half million south suburban community residents each year to be well physically, mentally and spiritually. Ingalls Health Systems includes a 582-bed hospital located on the 37-acre main campus in Harvey, a skilled nursing facility, home care agency, community-based family treatment centers, outpatient diagnostic and rehabilitation facilities, Same-Day Surgery in Tinley Park and Ingalls Wellness Center at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood.
As an extension of the hospital's emergency department, Ingalls is the only area hospital to offer urgent care, 24-hours a day/365 days a year, at Ingalls Urgent Aid Centers on 159th Street in Tinley Park and on 170th & Torrence in Calumet City. Ingalls is one of the nation's ìTop 100î hospitals in cardiovascular care and is widely recognized for involvement in national cancer studies. Ingalls offers the Midwest's only dedicated center for macular degeneration and is affiliated with Children's Memorial Hospital.
Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights is a 507-bed acute care facility with a 24-hour emergency service. Also an acute care facility with 500 beds is Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, renowned for performing the first human organ transplant and for its continuing pioneering services.
A state-designated Level II trauma center with 472 beds, St. James Hospital and Medical Centers in Chicago Heights offers the full spectrum of medical services. A comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient services are provided, including a Level II nursery. Primary and specialty care are offered at eight conveniently located health centers in Chicago Heights, Sauk Village, Beecher, Monee, and Mokena. Home health services are available as well as an extended care facility and an assisted living facility in Crete.
Blue Island's 410-bed St. Francis Hospital and Health Center is another state designated Level II trauma center. The hospital operates immediate care centers in Tinley Park and Crestwood, and a family health center in Frankfort.
St. James Hospital and Medical Centers recently acquired the Columbia Olympia Fields Osteopathic Hospital and Medical Center in Olympia Fields. The facility has 213 beds and is a state-designated Level I trauma center. The hospital provides a wide range of medical care services.
Several hundred doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and other medical specialists have offices in Chicago Southland to serve residents. In addition, medical clinics dot the area. Excellent nursing homes are also available throughout the Chicago Southland area, as are attractive retirement centers offering everything from independent living to skilled nursing care.
