Located just 15 miles southwest of Chicago's Loop, Burbank holds distinctive status as one of the largest of Chicago Southland's diverse communities and one of a few without an industrial component.
Burbank is defined as a "bedroom" community. Those "bedrooms" are found in attractive single family homes lining tree-shaded streets throughout the community. In Burbank, residential development most often means residential redevelopment. Older homes are upgraded or torn down to make way for new construction.
Shoppers frequent the stores and shops along two major thoroughfares that border the community, Cicero Avenue on the east and Harlem Avenue on the west.
The 11 parks of the Burbank park district provide a full schedule of recreation programs, sports, and activities for residents of all ages from preschoolers to seniors. Residents also have quick access to exceptional health care in a facility operated by Little Company of Mary Hospital. The Stickney Township Health Center also provides health care services to residents.
Burbank has good access to two of the area's express highways, I-55 to the north and I-294 on the south.
