Revitalization and economic growth speak loud in Calumet City, expressed by its Enterprise Zone status and tax increment financing (TIF). The city is situated just 25 minutes south of the Chicago Loop and only minutes from the Calumet Expressway, I-80, and I-57.

Enterprise Zone incentives and programs are credited with saving some 4,500 jobs in the community. These provide new businesses with worker training and make funds available for improving exiting businesses. A TIF district centering on State Street aims at attracting new businesses and new single family homes. Calumet City offers a wide range of housing types and styles.

Calumet City residents are youthful and active. They enjoy the programs and park facilities of the Calumet Memorial Park District, the Sand Ridge Forest Preserve, and the River Oaks golf course. Sand Ridge features exhibits on the pioneers who settled the area and on the natural history of the Calumet region.

Calumet City residents are among the half-million shoppers who regularly visit the city's River Oak Shopping Center. Anchored by four large department stores, the center has 90 other shops and stores and a 14-screen cinema.

Commuters to Chicago can catch fast trains at nearby Harvey and Calumet Park. The drive to Midway Airport takes about 45 minutes. O'Hare International is an hour away.
