Appropriately named by its developer, Hometown was designed to be just that for returning veterans of World War II. Developer J.E. Merrion built the duplexes and co-ops and the veterans moved in. Together, they created a community with a love of family and of country not frequently found.
Hometown families, often two and three generations strong, enjoy their close-knit community that shares a border with Chicago. They frequent their own strip shopping centers for much of their routine needs. However, proximity to the city allows them easy access to Chicago's wealth of shopping, professional sports, and wide-ranging entertainment events.
Midway Airport is five minutes from Hometown. O'Hare International is a 25-minute trip. It's 30 minutes to downtown Chicago via the Dan Ryan Expressway to the east or the Stevenson Expressway to the north.
