OAK LAWN, ILLINOIS
Founded in 1909, Oak Lawn prides itself as a community for families while offering a strong base for local businesses. Boutiques and family-owned shops along with major retailers attract customers from surrounding suburbs and nearby Chicago neighborhoods to the main commercial districts along 95th Street and Cicero Avenue. In fact, the intersection of Cicero Avenue and 95th Street in Oak Lawn is one of the busiest in the entire metropolitan area.
Oak Lawn families possess a staunch loyalty to their community. An active lot, they work to benefit their community in dozens of civic and social clubs and organizations. They form the core of a stable tax base, supporting quality school system and churches representing most major denominations.
Oak Lawn is home to Christ Hospital and Medical Center, part of the Advocate Health Care Systems. A 792 bed teaching, referral and Level 1 trauma center, the hospital offers community residents high quality health care. In the fall of 1996, Christ Hospital will open a 60 bed children's hospital to accommodate critically and chronically ill patients.
The Oak Lawn Park District provides the finest facilities and over 200 programs in recreation for its residents. Its Community Pavilion seats up to 3,500 and hosts a variety of events, including an annual concert series by the Southwest Symphony Orchestra. The Stoney Creek Municipal Golf Course and the new Oak Lawn Ice Arena are the most recent additions to the facilities offered by the park District.
Oak Lawn is easily accessible from most major highways in the area including; Interstate 80, I-90 and 94 serve Oak Lawn from the east and west and Interstates 294, 55 and 57 provide easy access from the north and south. Oak Lawn is just 15 miles southwest of Chicago's Loop.
