Park Forest is a Chicago Southland cultural center, home to the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southland's professional symphony, and the Illinois Theatre Center, a professional theater and drama school.

The homes of Park Forest span the housing spectrum from low-cost rental apartments and split-level single family dwellings to luxury homes and old estates. Its population is as diverse as its housing.

Opportunities for recreation abound in Park Forest. They include numerous parks, an aquatic center with a 160-foot water slide, the Thorn Creek Nature Center, a tennis and health club plus Hidden Meadows Golf Club. This public golf course was recently expanded to 18 holes, as part of The Meadows Golf Course community, a development of 55 single-family homes.

A 60-acre business park in the village is home to a variety of light manufacturing, warehousing, research, and distribution firms. Park Forest extends across the Cook County border into Will County where lower property taxes stimulate development. Available properties in the Will county portion of the village share close proximity to the proposed third airport.

Park Forest residents have quick access to I-57 via U.S. 30 that skirts its northern boundary. Commuters can catch Metra trains in University Park, the community's neighbor to the south.
