Alsip enjoys easy access to the rest of the Chicago metropolitan market. Interstate 294 skirts its western edge, where tall, red, white, and blue water towers dramatically identify the Village. I-294 connects the community with I-80, I-55, and I-57 and gives it quick access to the Dan Ryan Expressway and Chicago Loop, about 25 minutes away. O'Hare International Airport is a fast 40 minutes from Alsip, while Midway Airport is only a 20-minute drive. Pace buses provide transportation to points in the village and to surrounding communities.

Alsip is an employment center among Chicago Southland communities. Union Carbide, Griffith Laboratories, and Coca-Cola are among the prominent corporate names with facilities in the village. More than 22,000 men and women commute from surrounding communities to work in Alsip business and industry.

The Alsip Economic Development Commission works to attract new businesses in the community, shopping to satisfy the needs of residents and those who work in the village, industries to occupy the available sites in industrial areas, and residential developers to provide homes from the communities growing population.

As inducements, the village offers enterprise zones, state and county tax abatement, and a willingness to work with new business. A skilled labor force is a primary attraction.

Youthful Alsip residents take full advantage of their fine recreation facilities. They hike and bike along established trails, splash in an aquatic park, use the tennis courts, and enjoy softball tournaments. The annual Summer fest celebration brings Alsip families together for good, old-fashioned fun.
