With access to I-294, I-57, and I-80 nearby, Oak Forest has what residents say is the ideal location. The village is a bit over 20 miles from Chicago's Loop, a quick trip for commuters via comfortable Metra trains.

Oak Forest shoppers frequent the prosperous stores and other retail outlets that line Cicero Avenue and 159th Street. A Tax Increment Financing district along Central Avenue, including a portion of 159th Street, is enabling redevelopment of this area of the community.

Oak Forest is considered a residential community. However, it has a substantial industrial base with such well-known firms as Frito-Lay in residence in the village's Oak Forest Corporate Center.

School district 228 serves Oak Forest with excellent facilities, educators, and programs. The community's recreation amenities are excellent, as well. Oak Forest is the setting for the George W. Dunne National Golf Course and an Irish cultural and athletic center.
