The Whispering Oaks Girls Scout Council serves the Western suburb area, which includes Cicero. Girls ages 5 to 17 are welcome to join. Scouting gives the girls many opportunities for recreation while developing self-awareness, social skills and personal values, all the while learning the importance of being an active contributor to society.
The Art Mac Quilkin Boys Club of Cicero is an affiliation of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Ciceros Boys Club sponsors many activities for boys ages 8 to 18. Its offices are located on 25th street and house a game room filled with activities such as pocket and bumper pool. Its gymnasium provides basketball, volleyball, dodgeball and floor hockey. Interested players may be placed on community teams. There is also an art room, photography lab as well as other special activity rooms.
The Childrens Center, available at four locations, is another program that serves area youth. It offers a Head Start Day Care Center for pre-kindergarten aged children, a Family Literacy program where families can borrow books and toys, and a Parents Education program that helps parents learn the basics of child-rearing and development.
The Cicero Chamber of Commerce is a strong force in the community, providing the town with leadership in action. The Chambers nearly 400 members realize the need for active involvement in Ciceros economy and provide the ideas, talent and finances needed to direct many programs.
The clubs and organizations serve all age groups. Thanks to many of these clubs and civic groups, Ciceros youth have the opportunity to become involved in everything from arts to athletics to community and business orientation.
