Columbia and the Metropolitan St. Louis area form an integral part of the transportation network in the geographic center of the United States.
Interstate 255, a six-lane interstate that bypasses the eastern side of the metropolitan area is immediately accessible and I-270 I- 44, I-55, I-64 and I-70 are all within a 15-minute drive of Columbia.
St. Louis Lambert International Airport serves the eastern Missouri/Southern Illinois region and offers non-stop service to major domestic and international cities. Parks St. Louis Downtown Airport is 10 minutes away and Mid America Airport, a joint-use military/civilian facility adjacent to Scott Air Force Base, is 40 minutes away. A private airport for small planes is located within the city limits of Columbia.
Rail and water transportation services also accommodate area businesses and industries. The Mississippi River is a major conduit for U.S. agriculture products and the Port of St. Louis is the nation’s second largest inland port.
