Recreational facilities and activities are abundant in and around Columbia. Residents can enjoy several parks, including Bolm-Schuchkraft Memorial City Park, Stone Arch Bridge Park, Meadow Ridge Park, American Legion Park and Metter Park.
Amenities at these parks include tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, football fields, soccer fields, basketball courts and an inline skating rink. The parks also contain walking trails, halls and pavilions, picnic areas, playgrounds and horseshoe pits.
The Oerter Soccer Park in Columbia is complete with three lighted soccer fields.
Excellent golf facilities in the city include Columbia Golf Course, Columbia Bridges Golf Course and River Lakes Golf Course. Several other courses in southwestern Illinois are within 20 minutes of the city.
Organized children’s leagues such as the Khoury League (baseball and softball), Kids ‘n Kics (soccer), and Blue Jays Football support hundreds of participants. Recreational classes for the young are also available in bowling, dance, swimming and gymnastics. Adult leagues also are available in bowling, horseshoes, volleyball, softball and golf.
Columbia is within 20 minutes of professional auto and horse racing. Downtown St. Louis is home to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Rams football, and Blues hockey teams.
For those who love the great outdoors, three large lakes and two rivers are within 60 miles of Columbia. Cyclists from both sides of the Mississippi River come to Columbia to begin their ride down Bluff Road and enjoy miles of beautiful scenery.
