With our residential base firmly established, we now have turned our attention to attracting commercial and industrial development. Understanding the unique needs of such development, the Village has established two Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts and identified potential development areas. Years of conservative investment in our infrastructure now provides, utilities to potential development areas; annexation is always a viable option should the need occur.

Professional Building Services, Inc., is a regional design building company based in Crete. PBS designs and builds commercial, industrial, recreational and institutional buildings throughout Illinois and Indiana. PBS is also an involved partner in the Business Education Partnership and employees are active in the community.

Recently, the Holland Company, employing 280 people nationwide, relocated its operations to Crete. Owner of the world’s largest mobile welding fleet, the Holland Company is a leader in rail welding, track testing, and supplies railcar components. Holland has people all around the country, and is the first company to participate in the Business Education Partnership.

Newly constructed Walt’s Plaza is a multi-unit retail center that is the nucleus for a new generation of Commercial development on the east Crete has a strong, diverse industrial base. It's continued success is attributed the traditional work ethic that Crete is famous for.

One of the most significant companies in Crete, Technotape, is a leading supplier to the photofinishing industry. Its local facility services minilabs and overnight labs worldwide.

Crete based Professional Building Services (PBS), a regional Design/Build Company has designed and built dozens of projects for distributors, manufacturers, transportation specialists, retailers, churches and more. PBS has designed and built North western University’s Indoor Football Practice Facility in Evanston, Illinois, Omega Sports Complex in Hobart, Indiana. In Crete, PBS has designed and built Walt’s Food Center, Ace Hardware of Crete, Techn-o-Tape, Crete Emergency Services Building for the Village of Crete and Harley Davidson Storage Facility.
