Village residents can quickly call 911 to access the countywide enhanced 911 emergency response system. The Crete Fire Department staffs 30 part-time and paid-on-call firefighters and paramedics at two stations with an operating fleet of three engines, one heavy-duty rescue squad truck and two paramedic equipped ambulances. To help cover the daytime requirements, we employ firefighter/paramedics from various local departments and private ambulance companies. Together we provide fire protection and ambulance service to the residents of the village. The Crete Fire Department operates out of two fire stations. Station #1 is at 524 W. Exchange Street, and Station #2, is at Richton Road and Melaine Lane. Each station is equipped with an Advance Life Support ambulance and at least one fire engine. Station #1 also has a heavy squad and grass fire truck. The Fire Dept. holds two major fundraisers each year. A pancake breakfast and raffle at Station #1, and a street dance during the summer. Profits from the events are used to purchase equipment.
