Raue Center for the Arts

From Voices in Harmony (the community choir) and Community Band to Summers Academy of Dance to the McHenry County Music Center, there are musical opportunities for everyone in Crystal Lake. The Northwest Area Arts Council develops arts and educational programming for adults and children.

The Raue Center for the Arts is McHenry County’s premier performing and visual arts center. It has an 850-seat auditorium for live performances and galleries for exhibits by local and national artists.

The Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, where art meets history, is located near the shoreline of beautiful Crystal Lake. The Lakeside Legacy Arts Park is actually two historic buildings united as one, the Dole Mansion (circa 1865) and the adjoining Country Club Addition (circa 1926). The former country club has been renamed the Creative Arts Center, home to the Sage Gallery, artists’ studios, and art education and music programs.

The Crystal Lake Public Library (CLPL) is one of the nation’s top 10 libraries, as determined by Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings in the 25,000-49,000 population category. The Library maintains a collection of more than 210,000 items, including books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and videogames. Each year, more than 325,000 people visit CLPL, and the annual circulation exceeds 900,000. The Library also annually hosts more than 19,500 attendees at nearly 1,000 programs. CLPL is proud of its Summer Reading Program, a program for all ages that registers more than 4,500 participants who read for a collective total of more than 4 million minutes.
