The Crystal Lake education system is one of the best in Illinois. For the seventh year in a row, Community High School District 155 was named as one of the nation’s top school districts by SchoolMatch, a national school selection consulting firm.

Elementary school children attend one of 10 District 47 or Prairie Grove District 46 schools. These three districts include four middle schools, and three high schools. Five Parochial and private schools with alternative educational programs are also located in Crystal Lake.

McHenry County College is the county’s center for higher education and lifelong learning. Credit, community, and continuing education classes are offered year-round. Six Associate Degrees and 18 Applied Science Associate Degrees are available.

Columbia College allows students to transfer from MCC to pursue a variety of B.A. and B.S. degrees. Webster University offers an MBA and MA in a choice of four areas of concentration during evening and Saturday classes. Both Columbia and Webster are located at University Center, 100 S. Main Street, in downtown Crystal Lake.

Aurora University – Lake Geneva is also a short drive from Crystal Lake. If offers a wide variety of bachelors, masters and doctoral programs.
