The Danville economy is well diversified and includes several major industries including agriculture, mining, construction, manufacturing, transportation, communications, utilities, wholesale and retail trade, finance, insurance, business and repair services, entertainment, health services, educational services, and public administration. Danville also has Internet-based and other technology-based businesses.
Several industrial development sites exist throughout the county, including property in the Eastgate and Southgate industrial parks as well as the Danville/Tilton Enterprise Zone. Plans are underway for future expansion needs.
Members serve as mentors for MERIT Academy Students at Danville High School. They spend time talking with them about everything from the importance of staying in school to the need for math, English, and teamwork on the job to personal issues. These mentors meet twice a month with high school students.
The Danville Area Logistics Cluster's mission is to stimulate community awareness of and interest in career pathway opportunities available within Vermilion County logistics and transportation-related businesses. Like the Manufacturing Cluster, this group has facilitated partnerships with the K-14 education system that will assist in the immediate and ongoing change and development of curriculum better preparing students for this career pathway.
The Information Technology Cluster is another cluster venture. The purpose of the "IT" Cluster is to serve as a single voice in creating community awareness of career pathway opportunities within Vermilion County's information technology-related businesses. Another goal is to facilitate partnerships with the K-14 education system that will promote immediate and ongoing change and development of curriculum and training, better preparing students and the existing workforce for these career opportunities.
