Putting DeKalb to Work
DeKalb is a natural location for a variety of industries — including logistics, warehousing and distribution facilities; biotechnology; electronics and electrical products manufacturing; and heavy equipment manufacturing. Likewise, DeKalb’s labor pool is comprised of skilled and professional workers. DeKalb County boasts some of the most educated employees in Illinois, many of whom received post-secondary education at NIU or Kishwaukee Community College. Leading employers in the community include Northern Illinois University (providing the area with more than 4,500 jobs), SCA Consumer Packaging, 3M, DeKalb Clinic Chartered, Ideal Industries and KishHealth System. Target’s Distribution Center will also be among the top employers (expected to employ more than 1,000 people) when opened in 2006.
