Industries are attracted to East Moline because of its strategic location near major thoroughfares and markets. East Moline is home to a wide variety of industries, most notably internationally known, agricultural manufacturers Deere & Company and Case New Holland Corporation. Deere & Company founded in I837, grew from a one-man blacksmith shop into a worldwide corporation that today does business in more than 160 countries and employs approximately 37,000 people worldwide. John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline produces combines for domestic and international grain harvesting operations, and is one of the companies most profitable facilities, helping to drive the local economy by providing 1,400 jobs. In 1926, International Harvester purchased Case Corporation's current 83-acre site. Today, Case New Holland Corporation operates a combine facility employing over 800 people on a 155-acre site.

Other major employers include McLaughlin Body, provider of caps for Deere and Case agricultural products; 4C Solutions, specializing in application development, network administration and management, Web development, interactive multimedia services and other technologies; MetoKote, paint supplier; and KVF Quad, a mechanical metal finishing and parts washing operation. Recent additions to the corporate landscape include Mobile Lift Inc., a manufacturer of hydraulic components and Jacobson Warehouse, Inc., providing flexible public warehousing utilizing state-of-the-art technology. This broad array of industry has helped create a strong and stable local economy.

Exciting opportunities for development are available, from smaller properties ideal for retailing and independent offices to large sites perfect for major corporations and potential office park developments. Great River Industrial Park (GRIP) is one of East Moline's newer industrial parks. GRIP provides an excellent opportunity for manufacturers interested in a quality environment. The East Moline Industrial Park (EMIP) has acreage available for light industry and warehousing companies. To encourage growth, East Moline provides a business plan that provides first-class office and commercial developments, low utility rates, excellent municipal services and competitive tax incentives. The Enterprise Zone program stimulates economic growth and neighborhood revitalization through state and local tax incentives, regulatory relief and improved government services. The City of East Moline Economic Development Loan Fund offers low-interest loans on a five-year term to qualified industries, while the Quad City Regional Finance Authority offers access to low-interest industrial bond financing.

Several projects are currently slated to revitalize the East Moline Central Business District. The Quarter is a project which creates a vibrant waterfront area composed of a number of unique districts. Other major development projects include the Depot and Downtown District with a multi-modal transit facility; the Riverfront Parkway with bicycle and pedestrian trails; the Regional Sports Center; The Mississippi River Interpretive Center which will explore the ecological and historical character of the Mississippi River; and the Marina Housing & Mixed Use District which will contain the development of condominiums, an office complex and riverfront restaurant.
