Edwardsville/Glen Carbon kicks off the fun-filled month of October with "Glenfest," an event that includes amusement rides, a car show, beer garden, and live music. Area businesses, banks and printers contribute greatly to the event, donating gift certificates, savings bonds and trophies to the "Little Miss Glenfest" pageant.
Harvest Homefest comes later in the month. This two-day weekend event is packed with attractions amidst a carnival atmosphere. Fruits and vegetables as well as fall perennials are sold. At the Pumpkin patch, Montclaire merchants award prizes for pumpkin painting; provide horse-drawn hay rides and host Minerfest, where the smell of apple butter and sounds of live music fill the air.
On the second day of Harvest Homefest, participants join a "Volksmarch," along a trail that winds through the towns historic districts down to the Watershed Nature Center. In addition, Leclaire Park features food booths, the Jaycees Beer Garden, bands, trolley tours, boat races and a parade. Shortly after the Harvest Homefest come the annual Halloween Parade and then the Veterans Day parade.
A "Renaissance Fair" and "Festival 66" draw people from surrounding communities also. Edwardsville/Glen Carbon will be joining the "Illinois 2000" festivities and sponsor its portion of the Route 66 Illinois Motor Tour. This cross-country road trip will pass many of the original businesses and eateries along the famed route.
The first weekend in December brings the winter festivals with the town ablaze in Christmas lights and a special Christmas market in the downtown area.
