Elk Grove Village Healthcare

Part of the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network (ABHN), a subsidiary of the Alexian Brothers Health System, Alexian Brothers Medical Center is a prominent source of medical care in the Elk Grove Village area. The distinguished hospital is characterized by its advanced medical capabilities, unrivaled treatment and compassionate care for residents located within Chicago's northwest suburbs.

Alexian Brothers Medical Center, along with St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, recently earned the Joint Commission's prestigious Gold Seal of Approval for Disease Specific Certification as a Primary Stroke Center for its Congestive Heart Failure, Bariatric Surgery, Joint Replacement, Oncology and Acute Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) programs. This certification is part of an innovative campaign by the Joint Commission, created in order to heighten the quality of stroke care in the U.S. The two hospitals are among the first medical centers in the state to receive this certification and recognition as two of the top hospitals for stroke care.

What's more, both Alexian Brothers Medical Center and St. Alexius Medical Center have received the American Stroke Association's Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Silver Performance Achievement Award, making the ABHN Illinois' premier and sole network to receive such a designation. This acknowledgment is evidence of the hospital's dedication to providing only the best in medical care and services.

The medical center is in the midst of an improvement project, just having opened the 60,000 square foot Eberle Medical Office Building in May of 2007 – a facility that houses physician offices, the Alexian Neurosciences Institute and the new Illinois Gamma Knife Center.

The next step in the Alexian Brothers Medical Center's expansion project is the development of a five-level tower, which will provide an additional 108 private beds in the hospital. This plan has been designed in order to meet the growing need for patient privacy in a hospital setting.

The new $116 million bed tower will be located directly above a ground-level ambulatory care mall, designed to concentrate its outpatient diagnostic services in one place. The services in this area will include Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Diagnostic Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound Testing, Non-Invasive Cardiology Testing and Pre-Surgical Testing. The new location will also encompass an outpatient laboratory and an outpatient pharmacy.

The first floor, above the ground-level ambulatory care mall, will be equipped with modern Intensive Care and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units, while the second and third floors will accommodate a number of private rooms for general medical/surgical patients. The top floors will house additional mechanical systems allowing the medical center to construct two more floors in the tower without interruption to the floors below. Project completion is slated for fall of 2009.

And in addition to the construction of the new bed tower, the hospital will be redesigning the current bed tower to house private rooms, again to meet the growing need for patient privacy. The new layout of Alexian Brothers Medical Center will provide a total of 387 licensed beds, which lessens the number of previous beds in order to provide for more room in the facility.

The medical center has plans to expand and improve other services into the spaces left open by the moving of the ambulatory care departments once the new bed tower is completed as well. Additional projects include the new chapel, opened in the first quarter of 2008,“The Gateway Project,” which is a landscape area showcasing a statue of Jesus Christ, encompassed by a fountain located at the southeast corner of the campus, and a multitude of additional infrastructure improvements.
