Location and Transportation

Only 12 miles away from downtown St. Louis, residents of Fairview Heights have easy access to Interstate highways and roads that take them places in a hurry. These routes also make it convenient for anyone to come to Fairview Heights to enjoy its many shopping and hospitality amenities.

I-64 traverses east to west through the heart of the community. I-255 is a mile to the west, and I-55 and I-70 are four miles to the north. U.S. 50 intersects two state highways (Routes 159 and 161) within the city and one (Route 157) just beyond the community’s western boundary.

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is a quick 21 miles from the city, and 16 airlines serve travelers with more than 1,000 flights each day. Local limousine services provide speedy transportation to Lambert-St. Louis, and several hotels offer free shuttle service to the airport for groups.

In 1998, Mid-America Airport opened at Scott Air Force Base minutes east of neighboring O’Fallon, Illinois, and in the year 2001, the Bi-State Transit District’s Metro Link began operations, providing commuter service from Fairview Heights to St. Louis and Scott Air Force Base.

The transportation needs of local business and industry are met by many of the motor freight carriers that serve the St. Louis metropolitan area. Package delivery service is also available. For industrial shippers, a dock on the Mississippi River is only 10 miles away. The CSX Railroad also serves the community.
