Worship in Fairview Heights

The first church in the area was built in 1850. Although the incorporation of Fairview Heights was still more than a century away, the influences of religion on the community was strong and continues to influence the city.

The congregations of well over 20 churches, representing most major denominations, gather for fellowship and worship and work together in harmony for the betterment of all. A ministerial association carries this attitude of cooperation across the community.

In any season, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Snows in Belleville is an eye-pleasing spiritual experience. However, from the third week in November to the first week of January, the shrine is decked out with over one million colored lights that wind past electro-art sculptures, life-size figures, and displays that tell the story of Christmas. In addition, there’s a Kid’s Christmas Village, a designer Christmas Tree display, and carols sung by area choirs. Horse drawn carriages and an open tram take visitors on a tour of the lights.

The Mayor of Fairview Heights hosts a monthly prayer breakfast in conjunction with the local clergy association on the first Tuesday morning of each month.

Additionally, every first Tuesday of April, there is an annual Prayer Breakfast held in a larger banquet facility with special music and a guest speaker. All prayer breakfasts are open to the public.
