contentsVillage of Flossmoor ILads

Flossmoor’s amiable neighborhoods boast the finest in superior housing, ranging from comfortable rental units to palatial estates in beautiful settings. Residents of Flossmoor take advantage of some of the finest housing options in all of the Chicagoland area, which is characterized by such styles as vintage Georgians and Tudors, stately Colonials, contemporary ranches and modern townhomes, all of which stand as evidence of the community’s long and cherished tradition of home building.

The backdrop of Flossmoor’s residential landscape includes mature maples, many planted by the original railroad developers, that dominate the older neighborhoods and well-landscaped yards in the area’s newer subdivisions, ensuring that Flossmoor stays green and shaded. Heavy traffic is diverted away from the Village since most residential streets are winding; early Village planners designated a limited number of through streets in order to maintain peaceful, safe residential neighborhoods. The wide diversity of housing styles and prices assure residents that you will not have to move out of Flossmoor to move up.

The majority of the Village’s older three- and four-bedroom homes, constructed between the 1920s and 1950s, can be pinpointed near Flossmoor’s downtown center and METRA station. Plenty of spacious apartment and condominium complexes are available in the heart of downtown Flossmoor, while more recently developed two-stories and ranches encompass this active area.

Ballantrae of Flossmoor, the Village’s newest residential subdivision, consists of custom designed homes in the mid six-figure price range. At the same time, older, smaller homes in mature neighborhoods are experiencing replacement with larger residences or enhancements with additions, due to the fact that while people adore Flossmoor’s neighborhoods, they also want the greater resources of a modern home. Additionally, many born and raised in Flossmoor who moved away after college are returning in droves to raise their own families here.

In October of 2005, Chicago magazine rated the Village of Flossmoor one of the “Best Places to Live” and one of the top six communities with an average house sales price of $300,000 – a six percent increase from the prior year. Ratings were based on 20 different variables in categories such as housing, health and safety, transportation, leisure and schools.

To ensure that Flossmoor’s streets remain shaded and picturesque, even in the new developments, the Village of Flossmoor has established a share-the-cost tree planting program. In 1991, the value of the Village’s publicly owned trees was nearly $10 million; as the result of Flossmoor’s tree program, the estimated value of the public trees in early 2008 was $24.5 million.

Flossmoor’s mature population also has wonderful opportunities here through the Sunrise Assisted Living facility, which provides a caring atmosphere that encourages independence, preserves dignity and protects the privacy of its residents. The Sunrise operating philosophy is to provide care and services to seniors in a home-like, residential environment. Sunrise also offers extensive services and amenities, including scheduled transportation for activities and outings; social, educational, recreational, religious and cultural programs; concierge service; wraparound porches and terraces; and a private dining room for family and guests.
