Among its superb recreational amenities, Flossmoor is renowned for its immaculate, professionally-designed golf courses. The golfing tradition dates back to the turn of the century with the founding of the Homewood (now Flossmoor) Country Club, one of the most prestigious private country clubs in the United States. The course was originally designed utilizing nature to create challenging holes nestled among natural rolling terrain, towering trees and the winding Butterfield Creek. The beauty and reputation of the course continues to attract golfers from all over the area. The club also offers many family-oriented activities including swimming and tennis.

2005 marked the grand opening of the Coyote Run Golf Course, owned and operated by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District. This 18-hole, par 71, 6,478 yard course is maintained by the most capable hands in the business, providing beautiful greens set among picturesque water hazards, which challenge as well as bedazzle golfers of all levels. Coyote Run also offers a three-hole golf learning center, driving range, and a full complement of league and lesson programs. Its clubhouse features a Northwoods Restaurant, open year round.

Olympia Fields Country Club has been hosting major golf events for the past eighty-six years, including the 2003 U.S. Open. Through the years, some of the greatest names in golf have played its challenging courses, including Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, Chick Evans and Walter Hagan.

The club’s 110,000 square foot clubhouse is one of the largest in the world, boasting a number of amenities for guests to enjoy including the Candlelight Dining Room, thirty beautifully furnished guest rooms, swimming pools, clay surfaced tennis courts and complete locker facilities with fitness areas.

Olympia Fields Country Club’s Championship North Course is rated number two in the state of Illinois by Golf Digest, and number 24 in its National 100 list. In addition, its pro shop was recently recognized by Golf World Business as one of the top 25 private clubs in America.

Idlewild Country Club, which was designed by Al Naylor in 1908, has hosted thousands of golfers and national tournaments on a professional level. Idlewild features 18 holes that challenge generations of golfers at all levels of play. In 2003, Idlewild completed a $2.5 million project to renovate its clubhouse in order to make the country club more than just a place to play golf. Specifically, Idlewild Country Club remodeled both the men’s and women’s locker areas, added an exercise room, a new bar area and dining room, men’s grill and card room and modernized the ProShop.

The Calumet Country Club’s golf course in Homewood is one of the few Donald Ross designed courses remaining in the metro area. Founded in 1901, the Calumet Country Club is rich in tradition and heritage. In addition to its golf course, Calumet Country Club offers a fine clubhouse facility, a newly renovated ballroom, a variety of private meeting and entertaining areas, as well as a new swimming pool.

Ravisloe Country Club in Homewood has been a part of the Homewood-Flossmoor community for more than ninety years, offering exceptional golf opportunities on a course rich in history. Formed in 1901 by an energetic group of friends that wished to bring the game of golf to the Chicago Southland, Ravisloe was built on farmland owned by the Ravisloot family. Today, Ravisloe is recognized as one of the finest golf courses in the area.
