Village of Flossmoor

A Classic Experience

Flossmoor is home to a plethora of social and cultural opportunities. With more than 30 clubs and organizations, there’s plenty to do for people of all ages and interests.

Many of Flossmoor’s residents take an active role in their community, whether involved with their children's schools, Village beautification projects, fundraising for charitable organizations or pursuing leisure interests with fellow hobby or sports enthusiasts. Additionally, there are groups dedicated to the enhancement of the Village and its traditions as well as working toward the betterment of the global community. The Flossmoor Garden Club, the Homewood-Flossmoor Lions Club, Toastmasters of Homewood, Kiwanis Club of Homewood, Knights of Columbus and the Suburban Youth Symphony make up just a small sampling of the clubs available for residents’ enjoyment.

For those with the performance bug, The Drama Group is one of the oldest continuously operating theatre groups in the country. With a vast, active membership ranging in age from eight to eighty, The Drama Group is a volunteer organization that is well known and respected throughout the Chicago area for its professionally produced shows.

Celebrating 75 years of excellence in community theatre, The Drama Group is dedicated to providing quality theatre at affordable prices, giving the community the opportunity to audition, perform and become a member of this vital organization. Members also have the opportunity to participate in the Theatre Exchange Program, initiated in 1999. Since then, The Drama Group twice traveled to Hastings-East Sussex, England to perform “Spoon River Anthology” and “You Can’t Take It With You,” and the Stables Theatre Group arrived to perform “Great Expectations” for The Drama Group audiences. The Group’s next performance will be “Much Ado About Nothing” in August.

A recent cultural attraction for the Village of Flossmoor is the Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens, a public art program that features unique works of art installed in the village square along charming residential streets and in Flossmoor’s sculpture park. The Flossmoor Garden and Sculpture Park, designed by the Chicago landscape architect firm Peter Lindsay Schaudt Landscape Architecture, Inc., received the 2003 Merit Award for design from the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

The Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens was established in 1998 with private donations and an Illinois FIRST grant. Permanent and rotating sculpture exhibits are installed throughout the Village via cooperative leases with well-known artists, an arrangement with 3-D Chicago (host of the Pier Walk at Chicago’s Navy Pier) and Flossmoor’s annual national call for large-scale outdoor sculptures. The Village’s current sculpture collection consists of seven permanent sculptures by distinguished artists Bruce Beasley, Richard Hunt, Howard Kalish, Terry Karpowicz, Mark Lundeen, Scott McMillin and Judith Shea and four rotational artworks by artists Stephen Fischer, Michio Ihara, Bruce Niemi and Antoinette Prien Schultze.
