The Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society sponsored this publication to help celebrate Fox Lake’s 100-year Anniversary as a village. Hopefully, you will enjoy this trip down memory lane reviewing some of Fox Lake’s unique century in words and pictures.
Fox Lake - Grant Township Area Historical Society
The Historical Society operates the Grant Hall Museum at 411 Washington Street in Ingleside. Its mission is to preserve local historical records and memorabilia, making history available for the community. The Museum is housed in the building that served as the Grant Township Hall for almost 100 years. It was generously donated to the Society by the citizens of Grant Township.
In order to be successful, the Historical Society needs input from the entire community. Residents are encouraged to contact the Historical Society (847-587-0544) to discuss any historical information, pictures or memorabilia they may possess. Items may be donated or loaned to the Museum for display. The “loan” approach allows families to reclaim items if and when they desire to do so. The Museum may also make copies of photos or historic papers, allowing the families to retain the originals.
Some residents may not possess items, but have stories or knowledge. These stories often provide valuable links for piecing together factual background. The Museum is used by some people to research their family or property history.
The Museum increases as a resource when people share their hidden treasures and stories. If you have some old artifacts, such as pictures, signs, posters or election material, consider bringing the items to the Museum. The items may prove to be helpful links with the past — or the historians may help you understand their place in our local history.
Fox Lake’s rich history cannot be fully described within the limited pages of this book. The schools, churches and organizations require a larger, more comprehensive document to adequately recognize their significant contributions to the community. Nonetheless, with support of the ad-paying sponsors, we have been able to present a glimpse of Fox Lake’s intriguing history.
