Over the years there have been many public events and activities sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Village, civic organizations and even individual businesses. The public has been treated to boat races, Venetian Night, festivals, circuses, carnivals, boat shows, Octoberfests, fishing derbies, fireworks, water ski shows and other events. Chamber-sponsored events were able to support various businesses around town and therefore continued as an annual event. Such events as the Business/Family Expo, Fox Lake Boat Show, Santa Spaghetti Supper, and the Golf Outing have become annual events…while new ideas have brought in such events as the Motorcycle Rally and the Gingerbread House Contest.
In the early 1900s, both sail- and powerboat racing were conducted on the Fox and Pistakee lakes. While the sailboats continue to race at the historic Pistakee Yacht Club, the powerboat races have all but disappeared since the 1960s, when frequent races were conducted at the Waltonian, Mineola and other resorts. In recent years, Blarney Island has managed to support drag boat racing as an exciting Chain event, fondly termed as “Thunder on the Lake.”
Today, additional racing continues at the Pistakee Yacht Club with their summer sailboat races. This fall the Yacht Club hosted their 50th Blue Chip Regatta.
