The Fox Lake Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry has been serving the community since 1909. The celebration of 100 years of serving the community is really about the hundreds of Chamber businesses and their owners and employees who have worked to provide the services needed by the community. Their efforts over these 100 years are what we celebrate today. We honor their hard work and determination to make this a community we can all be proud of.
This book is about the beginning of a community and the businesses that have come and gone over the years as the needs have changed. Even today, we have new businesses starting up around town, because new owners feel they can offer a niche that this community might need and want. As our community continues to grow, so will our businesses—old and new. Sometimes we see new businesses “pop-up” in old storefronts...evident of our infamous downtown street corner at Grand and Nippersink, fondly termed as “The Corner.” However, we have been fortunate to see businesses that have been handed down to the next generation—and have been in our community over 50 years and are still in business today. Businesses like Bauske’s Basin, Ben Watts Marina, Fox Lake Ace Hardware, Fox Lake Dairy Queen, Fox Lake Harbor, Korpan’s, K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, the Mineola, Munson Marine and Pistakee Lake Marina.
This past year, the Chamber proudly announced that with our membership growth we are now serving over 250 members. We are grateful for the support of our community business members and the volunteers who are all the intricate part of who we are and what we do. If you are a new Chamber member, or have an invested membership for many years, we are grateful for your support to your fellow businesses and your community.
As the Fox Lake Area Chamber moves onward, it is also important to recognize our volunteers. Without them, we wouldn’t exist. At our Centennial Dinner, we gave recognition to our Chamber Past Presidents. And, in our July 4th parade, we honored two of our senior Past Presidents as our Grand Marshalls: Gerry Idstein/1965 and Fritz Schnoor/1976.
The Fox Lake Area Chamber thanks the businesses, their owners, the volunteers and all who continue to help the new and old businesses thrive within our community. Thank you for your support!
