With an increasing population, options for dining in Frankfort have also dramatically increased. Whether your culinary tastes range from gourmet or ethnic cuisine, hearty American selections, pizza or a sandwich, Frankfort serves up a tempting menu of over 60 restaurants to satisfy your appetite. An increased number of restaurants in the downtown area offer a delicious variety of menus in a distinctive historic surrounding that complements the many specialty shops. From nationally recognized chains to unique local eateries, dining in Frankfort is designed to satisfy every taste and budget.

Entertainment in Frankfort comes in a mixture of shapes and sizes throughout the year. Besides taking advantage of the community’s many indoor and outdoor recreational amenities, special events throughout the year attract residents and visitors alike. In 2005, the Village of Frankfort received an award from the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation for its Fine Arts Fair, as well as using the arts to make Frankfort a great place to live, work and play.

Shop for fresh fruits, vegetables and baked goods every Sunday from May through September (excluding Labor Day weekend) at the Country Market in downtown Frankfort. The market is open from Noon until 4:00 PM.

Cruisin’ Frankfort features classic, antique or collector cars in the historic downtown area every Thursday evening from June to August, including a Collector Car Show and Swap Meet in late July.

Concerts on the Green, a summer series of live musical entertainment every Sunday evening from mid June through August, can be enjoyed in a relaxed outdoor setting, while Winter on the Green in January and February offers a chili cook-off, ice sculpture demonstrations and winter games.

The Frankfort Fall Festival, one of the largest festivals in the Midwest, and held throughout the historic downtown area, takes place annually over Labor Day weekend. At the festival, arts and craft vendors from across the country display handcrafted products over a three-day weekend to thousands of visitors. Dozens of food booths manned by local civic groups, as well as established restaurants in downtown Frankfort, offer a variety of dining options. An entertainment tent and beer garden, as well as a parade, gives visitors an opportunity to enjoy themselves throughout the three days.

The holiday season features a month long celebration including an authentic Christkindl market in the downtown historic district, the annual Village tree lighting ceremony at Breidert Green, the historic house walk, holiday cookie walk and midnight madness sale. Take in the spirit of the holiday season with a bonfire, choral groups and hot chocolate while enjoying the lights in the historic downtown shopping area.

A host of other annual events continue throughout the year in Frankfort from the Wellness Fair in February, the Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration in April, Memorial Day remembrance in May, the Fourth of July Fireworks festivities, a Fine Arts Fair in June, a Fishing Derby for youngsters in July at beautiful Prairie Park, Movies on the Green during the summer months at Breidert Green, and a 5K Run/Walk along Old Plank Road Trail in October.

No matter the season, you’ll always find a reason to head to Frankfort and enjoy a variety restaurants, events and activities for the entire family.
